The Challenge

Touax, a family business managed by the fifth generation of owners, was founded in 1853 as a river transport company in France. Listed on the Paris Stock Exchange since 1906, it has evolved into an international leader in the management of river barges, wagons, and containers. In 2023, Touax managed assets of more than €1.3 billion.

Our collaboration aimed to create an IT solution to reduce the cost of wagon maintenance and unplanned immobilization by assigning an accurate mileage to each wagon of the fleet and each wheelset, calculated from various sources. The solution required integration with many of the Client's internal and external systems.

  • Touax manages a fleet of more than ten thousands wagons and needs to monitor them for maintenance and repairs on an ongoing basis.
  • One of the key steps was to gather and clean all the necessary data from all the external/internal systems in the organization and transfer it to the new application.
  • The new system had to present the data, as well as process it to enable calculations and predictions.

The Solution

  • The system integrates data from the ERP system and external data sources concerning the condition of wagons and wheelsets.

What We Learned

Working with Touax and integrating data from Nexxiot, a leading IoT solutions provider, underscored the critical role of seamless data integration in achieving accurate mileage calculations and predictive maintenance. We learned that real-time data processing and validation are essential for maintaining system reliability.

Additionally, this project demonstrated the importance of cloud-based solutions for scalability and flexibility, reinforcing our ability to handle large datasets effectively. This collaboration with Touax is another milestone in our growing portfolio of successful projects in the Rail sector.
